We had an ultrasound and Lorie and the baby are doing great. We are having a girl! She is due somewhere around November 2, 2008. We covet your prayers for a continued trouble-free pregnancy.

I grew up in this house back in the 1970s and 80's. I have a lot of good memories of this place. My Dad worked and loved on this house. I'm sorry to see that it's not appreciated in value too much. I'd love to buy it, but I couldn't live there again.

Music to my ears

I couldn't live without music. Lorie fusses at me sometimes because I just don't feel right if I don't have that music in the background. I just walk into a room and turn on the light, then the radio. If I don't have music on, I have an uncontrollable jukebox in my head, always playing a tune. I sing at church and I love music in all forms so needless to say, music is a big part of my life.

The other day I was waking up and checking on David using the monitor. He is very good and will wake up, pull back the curtain and start playing, waiting for one of us to open the door. Sunday morning I turned up the volume to see if he was awake or asleep and I heard the best thing, he was singing to himself! He knows a song from church "Who made you?" and I clearly heard his version of it. I have been thinking about it ever since. My boy is just like his papa and he loves music.

After many months of soul-searching and many weeks of unemployment, I have accepted a position at a local printing company, Business Cards Tomorrow (BCT for short). I am their assistant plant manager and I'll be learning all the facets of their business, from how to sweep the floor, to making ink colors and rubber stamps.

Thank you friends for your support, these last 6 months have been very painful. Your support and prayers have carried us through.

Pavarotti and my Dad

I didn't realize how much Luciano Pavarotti passing away would effect me, but I'm watching hos videos and crying tonight. Why? Because my dad loved the big tenor. He would have the Three Tenors CD on all the time when we'd visit. If he heard Pavarotti's voice on the radio, the conversation stopped or slowed down considerably. Dad was a tenor most of his life and I loved hearing his voice, even when it was dry and weak because of the chemo. He died 3 years ago last month.

In 2000 I had the opportunity to give dad a gift, a ticket to a concert here in Nashville, Pavarotti's first and only performance here. It was a night I'd never forget, My dad and I in the cheap seats, about 1/4 mile from the stage and loving every minute of it.

As my father lay dying, he said it was one of the highlights of his life. When I will think on my last memories her on this earth, I will remember Pavarotti in Nashville, and my father crying through Nessun Dorma.

Rest in Peace, Luciano. Thanks for the memories.

I spent the time I had with David yesterday making a list of the words he knows. He's a great parrot, but I had no idea he knew so many words. I counted 112 honest to goodness words and another 21 proper names. He's a chatty one, too.

Hey all, that is if anyone still checks this blog anymore.

I've gotten a few comments from family and friends that they feel like I've dropped off the face of the earth since last March. It's certainly not intentional. I have sat down at my computer several times to write, but I haven't gotten very far. The last 6 months have not been easy, not one bit. I'm looking for a new job, a better career track for now. I have been working on a coffee business, but I don't have the money to continue, so it's postponed for the foreseeable future. I plan on posting more. David turns 2 in 2 weeks and he's a riot. Lorie is a joy and a wonderful mom and wife who has taken such good care of us all.

More in the future.

Sad but good day

Hello all friends and family,

I want to call you all but I don't think I could tell the same story
over and over so many times.

As of this afternoon, I am no longer a partner at Bobbie's Dairy Dip
or the manager of J and J's Market and Cafe. Sam Huh came to the
decision that I was no longer to be his partner or employee. That has
always been his prerogative. I joined with him 3 years ago to learn
how to be a businessman, and he has taught me many things, and this
was his last lesson to me.

Of course this is very sudden and it is too soon to know what the
future holds. I ask for a favor from you. Keep my family and our
future in your prayers and for a path to be lit by Christ, our Lord.
We will have big decisions to make in the coming weeks.

Eric Volz is the Stepson of Dane Anthony for all you Belmont people out there. Please get the word out. Maggie is Dane's wife and Eric's mother.

The Facts:

-Doris Ivanez Jimenez was murdered on Tuesday, November 21, 2006.
-On the day of her murder, Eric Volz was over two (2) hours away in Managua.
-On November 23, 2006, Eric was arrested for the murder.
-Despite the conclusive proof that Eric was in Managua at the time of the crime, he remains imprisoned pending a trial now set on January 26, 2007. While in prison, Eric at least twice has been physically threatened, and on one occasion Eric was almost killed by a mob of over 200 outside the courthouse.

Yesterday I picked up David from his nap. He was in a good mood. Lorie was napping in the bed so we all snuggled in and started to play. At one point, David poked me on the nose. I said:
"That's Papa's nose. Where's mama's nose?"
David looked over and poked mama on the nose
Lorie and I looked at each other, shocked, I said:
"Where's papa's nose?"
He looks at me and pokes me in the nose.
"Where's mama's nose?"
He pokes Mama in the nose again.

Oh my, he's 13 months old! He knows too much already. But I'm very proud.

I had a few wonderful coffees from Intelligentsia Coffee in Chicago over the last 3 weeks. All of these coffees had been roasted around 6-5 or 6-6-06.
Black Cat espresso is their most popular and it was the first to go. Deep, rich and full of chocolate.
Oromo Blend was the mystery to me. I used it for espresso and drip coffee, and loved them both.
Red Sea blendwas fun to drink. They said "Blueberries", I said "Naw" then I tasted berries!
Yemen Sanani was the wild card in the bunch. The risk was rewarded. The best experience in this cup was the red wine aftertaste, slightly tannin on the tougue.

POLITICAL POST ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had it with people who don't even know me wanting to tell me what's best for me and my businesses! There is a bill before the Nashville Metro council that boldly states that if I open a roadside eatery it will be unclean, have rodents and pests and make people sick, so we're not going to let you-EVER! The bill is BL2005-860, and it's hooey, to put it mildly. I have seen some of the info and these stands are hardly any worse than other infamous place, *cough, Toxic Hell, Krystal *cough*.

The second bill is set to be introduced to the state house and senate sometime this year and it has to do with banning smoking in restaurants, and it's "for the children"! Bovine Scat! It's power, plain and simple. What business is it of the state if I choose to allow smoking or ban it from my restaurant. The title of the bill is:
"HB3102/SB2742--Prohibits smoking in restaurants permitting access to or employing persons under age 18." So, just because someone under 18 (ie. a Child) MIGHT be exposed to second-hand smoke, I can't have smoking in my place. You do realize that these tots are being dragged to these restaurants by their parents, right? You realize that these parents smoke everywhere else around them, right? In the house, in the car? But here's the government trying to make a little oasis for these poor children so they can breathe their only clean breaths in a cafe. Bo-scat I say!

Stop telling me what's best for me! I run a cafe that decided it was best to ban smoking a little over a year ago and it really cleaned up the place. But it was OUR choice based on business plans and economics. I hate smoking, my father died from lung cancer and some of my family still smokes. I think it's foolish and you're playing with a loaded gun. But it was my father's choice, my family's choice and I"m tired of the clueless government saying they know better than I do. BS!

Call your rep, email them, get your voice heard.
"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

*sigh* I feel a little better.
The biggest question I have is this: What right do they have to do this? Spell it out for me. I never said that they could have it all. You there who support this policy need to think on this. What happens when they get a wild hair and mess with something close to you, your wallet, or your kids? Try not to forget that they are there for US. If they don't know you, how can they know what's best for you, or me?
